Abstract
Persons with visual impairment are being excluded from a large part of cultural life, and so the permanent inclusion of accessibility services in artistic events is more required than ever. As part of Audiovisual Translation, Audio Description is the translation of a visual sign system into speech. While Audio Description as an accessibility tool is most commonly applied in cinema, museums and television programmes, in many cases dance performances can also be described verbally. While writing an Audio Description script for the dance theatre performance "Mother" by Peeping Tom, on the one hand, we examine how we perceive and analyse a dance, how we make sense of it and how we search for the "heart" of the aesthetic experience, and on the other hand, the criteria by which we justify our translation choices, the lilitations of turning the visual into verbal, but also the inevitable subjectivity of the translation experience.
