Abstract
The text of this dissertation is a text of the United Nations and its purpose is to inform the general public about what the UN Department of Global Communications (DGC) is and how it works. This text can be found on the UN main website and is divided into several sections to better explain the functions of this department. The text is informative in nature as its main purpose is to inform the public about the work of the Department of Global Communications. It is available on the UN's website in all six official languages of the United Nations. This dissertation is part of my internship at the United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) in Brussels. The translation of this text into Greek will be published on the Greek website of UNRIC. Besides, the United Nations Regional Information Centre, which provides information and documentation services for Greece and Cyprus, among other countries, is part of the Department of Global Communications.
The main challenge posed by this text is not so much in terms of terminology as in terms of style, with the desire for the translation to be a coherent text in the "language of the UN", which will not differ stylistically from the other texts on the website in which it will be published. As far as the terminology is concerned, it has its weight here as well, as various departments, services and programs of the UN have not in many cases been translated again into Greek, at least not by an official body.
