Abstract
The concepts of formal and nonformal education constitute fields of study and it is examined whether there can be an application of music teaching in a community based on these two forms of education. The existence of arts in the community is a particular setting of reference and it is noticed that music, as an art, is a very important institution in a community. Furthermore, the role of a musician in the community acquires dynamics and it is expanded as far as his social contribution is concerned, besides his ability to teach to individuals or groups of people with different origins, gender, age, religion, personality and skills. It is observed that different community music programs in the world can contribute to bigger and easier acceptance of the various groups of people in a community. It is a fact that in every community there are children who have been excluded from various social structures because of their family’s condition (orphanage, poverty, alienation) and status. I consider that it is the music educator’s duty to help these children in the community and approach them with his supporting teaching, with an expression of acceptance and love, in order to make them feel that they are not excluded that they belong somewhere so as they can do their best as far as their expression and their interests are concerned.
