Abstract
Poetry and music are two arts which, when combined, create magic. This
dissertation engages in the translation of a poem selection from Lana Del Rey’s Violet
Bent Backwards Over the Grass. The second part of this report analyses the translation
challenges that occurred throughout the translation process and their solutions. Then
follows, the study and discussion on the theoretical approaches regarding the translation
of song lyrics from translation theorists. Finally, this report analyses two of the
translated poems regarding their translation challenges and the chosen strategies based
on the theoretical approaches discussed above.
