Abstract
Purpose of this research is to measure the intercultural sensitivity of a group of police officers. Although research has been conducted in Greece that generally focuses on the subject, there are very few that focus on the intercultural sensitivity of police officers.
For the implementation of this research, a quantitative methodology was chosen and conducted. A sample of 215 police officers was obtained using the avalanche sampling method. The Intercultural Sensitivity Scale (ISS) by Chen and Starosta (2000) was shown as a research tool. The analysis of the data obtained was conducted using two software tools, SPSS and NeuroXL.
According to the results of the research, the police officers presented high scores on all 5 subscales of the questionnaire, which also indicates a high score on the overall scale of Intercultural sensitivity, which was confirmed.
Regarding the existence or non-existence of a difference between the demographic characteristics of police officers of different gender, age, years of service, level of training and teaching or not in terms of their degree of intercultural sensitivity, this research concluded that there is no statistically significant difference between age, years of service, training of police officers in terms of the degree of intercultural sensitivity, but there is change in relevance to the gender.
Finally, there is a demand from the participating police officers for systematic training on the issue of intercultural sensitivity.
In conclusion, the police officers who participated in this research are familiar with and respectful of cultural differences. They possess an open mind and recognize all cultures as equal.
