Abstract
The presence of Airbnb in Greece has brought significant impacts on the tourism sector, with Corfu serving as a case study. The emergence of Airbnb on the island has created both positive and negative outcomes. On the one hand, the platform offers opportunities for tourism development by promoting accommodation diversity and sustainable practices. Airbnb's presence encourages the local community to develop experiences and activities that attract visitors. However, there are weaknesses and threats, such as the difficulty in achieving a balance between residents and visitors, as well as potential negative impacts on the environment and the island's culture. Proposals for improvement include promoting sustainable practices, diversifying the tourism offer, and strengthening control and monitoring of accommodations. With these combinations, Airbnb can positively contribute to the tourism development of Corfu, enhancing sustainable approaches and the island's socio-economic prosperity.
