Abstract
The need for global information dissemination across networks with efficient mechanisms is becoming imperative in modern wireless environments. Traditional methods and algorithms are no longer considered to be able to withstand the increasing energy requirements and the large number of nodes in these types of networks.
Therefore, variants of known algorithms are systematically being studied and
adopted, one of which is the Probability Flooding algorithm, which reduces the
number of transmitted messages and helps with congestion in the network, at the cost of the uncertainty regarding the network’s full coverage. The study of Probabilistic Flooding yields interesting questions such as, what is the optimal forwarding probability so that using the least possible number of transmission the maximum coverage in network can be achieved.
For the purposes of this work, a low-cost wireless network is being implemented,
based on the Open Source Platform Arduino and using the Xbee modules of the
ZigBee communication protocol with the aim of experimenting with the Probabilistic Flooding, through the implementation of a corresponding application. At the end of this work follows the presentation of the results, as well as their qualitative study and a comparison with the present theory.
