Abstract
The subject of this doctoral dissertation deals with the instrumental monitoring of seismic and landslide activity, through the use of stochastic algorithms and the development of geohazards data processing software, which have been obtained with both conventional and low-cost acquisition systems. The study area focuses on the wider region of the Ionian Islands and specifically on Corfu and Lefkada. The novelty of this dissertation lies in the interdisciplinary analysis between Informatics, Geology and Seismology, in the context of a holistic approach to the research of geohazards in the Ionian Islands. The present dissertation aspires to contribute in the context of Natural Disaster Management and in particular the seismic and landslide risk in the Ionian Islands, an area which is characterized, in terms of seismicity and tectonics as the most active in Greece and one of the most active in the world. Experimental landslide simulation models were implemented, using both conventional and low cost sensors. Furthermore, innovative landslide monitoring recording systems and innovative seismic monitoring systems were installed in the field, with satisfactory performance and very encouraging results. At all stages of the present study, the acquisition of primary raw data was accompanied by the development of appropriate data processing and analysis software, so that Natural Disaster data acquisition devices, which cost less than conventional recording units, can provide the necessary acceptable accuracy for effective seismic monitoring and landslide risk reduction, in areas of special geodynamic and seismic interest.
