Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of temperature on the growth
of orchid tubers when cultivated in vitro. The experimental procedure started in
August 2021 on the island of Kefalonia, where four orchid species were studied under
eight different temperature treatments. A statistical analysis was performed under
parametric and non-parametric tests using the software JMP 16. Primarily, it was
observed that most species showed losses in terms of tubers formation, which may be
attributed to the cold season treatment. Furthermore, it was observed that cold
temperature was not associated with the highest growth of Mediterranean orchid
tubers cultivated in vitro. Yet, because plants have their own growth rate and require
different times to develop tubers, a proper time management and temperature
sequence are considered very important factors.Consequently, cold treatment time and
latitude can probably be factors related to the growth of Mediterranean orchid tubers.
