Abstract
This essay constitutes the graduate Thesis of the student Mavridou Garyfallia of the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting of the Ionian University. The work consists of the translation and commentary of Heiko Maas' speech in 2018, on the occasion of the growing dominance of Nationalism, Populism and Chauvinism at the expense of Europe. The translation and commentary were based on the functional approach of Christiane Nord's translation. Subsequently, the text was chosen in the light of the operational crisis, which governs the institutions of the European Union, as well as the supporting content of the speech in favor of Greece.
