Abstract
The contribution of translators and interpreters in defending the rights of foreign
language speakers is undoubtedly valuable. However, in Greek law there is no clear
distinction between the terms “interpreting” and “translation”, which is also a major
obstacle in criminal proceedings, since both the skills and roles of interpreters and
translators differ considerably. In the present paper we will attempt, initially, to shed
light on one of the still unexplored fields of Legal Translation, at least in the Greek
reality, by proposing the term «δικανική μετάφραση» as a translation in Greek of the
English Forensic translation. Subsequently, we will attempt to highlight the
importance of specialized training for a forensic translator, as well as to point out and
correlate the psychological factor with the translation process. It is hoped that it will
provide the impetus and inspiration for further research in these areas.
