Abstract
This internship report presents a comprehensive reflection on the application of the theories and practices of intercultural communication at the military NATO FOB Aktio Air Base. As a participant in the Politics, Language and Intercultural Communication post-graduate programme , the two-month internship in a multinational military unit provided an interesting combination of theory and actual practice. The report details various aspects of the internship, from collaborative work with multinational teams to cultural awareness, communication and coordination challenges, cultural exchange activities, task management, intercultural conflict resolution and continuous professional development. Throughout the internship, they effectively integrated intercultural communication theories into daily work situations, interpreting how theoretical knowledge played a key role in their daily actions. Several examples highlight the practical application of intercultural principles, such as adapting communication styles, mediating cultural conflicts, and utilizing cultural knowledge. Finally, the important role of the link between academic learning and experiences in practice is highlighted, shedding light on the mutual reinforcement of theory and practice. Despite occasional challenges, the internship served as a platform for applying cross-cultural theories and contributing to an inclusive military environment. The internship experience underscores the importance of intercultural communication skills in complex, multicultural contexts.
