Abstract
This paper is a detailed presentation of a first-year lesson towards students in their undergraduate studies. The texts proposed can be described as general texts and have to be translated from english to Greek. In my opinion, general translation is the ideal way for students to ease in the translation practice. This subject aims at finding a balance between theory and practice, so that students acquire a set of skills that will prove useful in the following years of their studies. The designing of the class is based on the skopos theory as it is described and implemented by Nord. The description includes a chart with a rubric for assessing the students’ work, a detailed analysis of each lesson and three texts which work as an example for the implementation of the theory. These three texts are approached from the point of view of the students who must translate them and comment on them. Furthermore, translation strategies are discussed and the models by Chesterman and Baker are commented in detail for whether they would be effective for this specific subject. Finally, the way the lesson is taught attempts to bring the focus to the students and how to complement their needs.
