Abstract
This dissertation deals with the issue of the concepts of language, foreign language and identity. More specifically, the aim is the systematic review of scientific articles of the last decade so as to produce a conceptual mapping of this specific scientific field. The reason this methodological approach was chosen is the fact that the literature on the above concepts is abundant and multifaceted and therefore it is considered appropriate to examine it in order to clarify both the wider context and whether there is a need for further primary or secondary research. Initially, the definitions of the concepts and the most obvious correlations between them emerged through the literature review. It became clear that these are two concepts that have frequently and intensely occupied the scientific community, while their framework of action is on the one hand particular to define and on the other hand difficult to consider limited to a single aspect of human life. Through this stage, the research questions emerged, which were answered through both the bibliographic review as well as the systematic review. The answers to the questions as well as the derivation of the general conclusions are found in the last chapters of the thesis, revealing how the concepts of (foreign) language and (cultural and national) identity are intertwined over time, presenting dynamic relationships - the effect of one on the other - and being connected to a multitude of other concepts, such as culture, civilization, psychology, teaching, autonomy, self-expression and tourism.
