Abstract
"Starlit Whiskers" is an animated film that explores themes of animal abuse, exploitation and empathy through the journey of a stray cat and an alien. The film opens with a UFO, apparently damaged by human attack, crashing to Earth. At the same time, a stray cat wanders through a densely populated city in search of food, leading it to an encounter with the alien. Their ensuing journey highlights the shared struggles and marginalization both characters face, fostering a bond that transcends genre boundaries.
This thesis provides an in-depth analysis of the film's narrative structure, character development and thematic elements that make it up. The story uses a classic narrative arc, beginning with an incident that prompts the cat and the alien on a quest for survival.
This paper also discusses the production process, including the use of 3D stop motion techniques and creative decisions that shaped the final animation. It also explores the symbolic representation of the emotional and physical "journeys" of the characters, highlighting the film's contribution to discussions of the proper treatment of marginalized beings.
Ultimately, "Starlit Whiskers" seeks to inspire and create reflection on the importance of compassion and understanding and the role of these two definitions in addressing social issues.
