Abstract
This thesis consists of my translation of a small part from the chapter "The Divine Victory", taken from Patrick Porter's book "Military Orientalism, Eastern War Through Western Eyes," and commentary on it. This chapter is about the war of July 2006 between Israel and Hezbollah, a Lebanese-based paramilitary and political organization. The author analyzes the causes, for which it took Israel almost a month to impose on a seemingly weak Arab paramilitary organization, while Isreal initially thought that Hezbollah could be destroyed in just a few days. The author of the book also refers to the extent of Hezbollah's organization and preparation, as well as to some of the patterns of war that appear to identify the Arabs and whether they apply or not. The commentary on the translation follows, consisting of an analysis of the source text, the translation problems I encountered in translating it into Greek, and the functionalism of the translation. Finally, the epilogue and the bibliography are listed.
