Abstract
This research examines the connection between the myth of Midas and the phenomenon of mass tourism, with an emphasis on the concept of greed. It analyzes the weaknesses in the attention paid to sustainability and destination development, in the light of environmental, social, and local economic challenges.
The purpose of this research is to prove that mass tourism is "the curse of Midas" and cannot be considered a sustainable way to develop tourism. Then, methods and practices that can be used to establish a more responsible and sustainable tourism, beyond the mass model, are presented.
The research is based primarily on primary research, focusing on the analysis of the behavior of tourists. In addition, secondary research is used, taking advantage of existing research that has been conducted by professionals and academic doctoral researchers in the field.
Overall, this research highlights the challenges associated with mass tourism and greed, focusing on sustainability and destination development. The goal is to encourage the adoption of practices that will promote responsible and sustainable tourism, offering long-term benefits to both local populations and the environment. The research contributes to providing valuable information and recommendations for improving the tourism industry and developing sustainable practices in the field of tourism.
