Abstract
This research project aims to explore the Taliban new regime’s political discourse, how they are seen through western newspapers, editorials, and news agencies, and how they present themselves. The main objective is the analysis of the Taliban’s regime’s political discourse since their return to power in August 2021 and the interpretation of western media through a linguistic and theoretical scope and a comparison between their first regime and the new. In the first part of the paper, a historically focused description is given of the events that led to the Taliban’s rise to power, and their structural organization as the leading figures of Afghanistan, their domestic and exterior policies, the war against the US, up until the establishment of their second regime. The second part of the paper focuses on the Taliban discourse as depicted by western media since August 2021, an analysis of their rhetoric through their spokespersons, and finally, our conclusions. The article research corpus consists of articles in each language from the following countries: English (USA, UK), French (France), Spanish (Spain) and German. For the Taliban speeches, we used video interviews of their spokespeople. The general research information is derived from the analysis of academics, scholars, and researchers from various origins.
