Abstract
In this dissertation, the BBC’s documentary: "Animals with superpowers" was subtitled. This documentary presents the amazing abilities of some animals, such as the incredible hearing of a species of owl, the barn owl, as well as the capability of dogs to smell and consequently detect cancerous tumors in the human body. In addition, in the documentary we see that elephants are able to pick up infrasounds, which humans cannot hear, as they are at very low frequencies. Moreover, after a test, we now know that wolverines have better sense of smell than most animals. Finally, an experiment is carried out in which we can see that owls fly without making any sound, unlike pigeons or peregrines, which must remain noiseless to surprise their prey. The purpose of this work is to enrich the knowledge of the viewer regarding the abilities of the animals presented. The capability of dogs, for example, to detect the odors that are emitted by cancerous tumors or the fact that after training they can recognize when someone has low blood sugar levels are of great significance to humans. Naturally, I encountered several translation challenges while subtitling the video, as always happens when translating any content from the source language to the target language. The difficulties that arose mostly concern names as well as scenes where the sound cannot be heard clearly, making the work of the subtitler even more demanding.
