Abstract
In the context of writing a dissertation for the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting of the Ionian University, the aim of the present work is to create a translation and commentary of a text of approximately 4,000 words. The source language of the text is English, while the target language is Greek. The first part of the dissertation, i.e. the translation, focuses on the translation of a section of the EU report “The situation of Article 2 TEU values in Greece: Focus on anti-corruption measures and media freedom”, as the full text exceeds the word limit allowed for this paper. This document, which was published in April 2022 by the Policy Department on Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs of the European Parliament as part of the EU work, provides information of a political, social and legal nature. I chose this particular text because, despite its relevance to the situation of the EU values in Greece, it hasn’t yet been translated into Greek. The second part includes the commentary on the translation commission, the analysis of the source text and the discussion of translation problems, based on the translation theories of Christiane Nord, Katharina Reiss, Hans J. Vermeer, Mona Baker, and others. The source text, a bilingual glossary with validated terms, and the bibliographic references are provided at the end of the dissertation.
