Abstract
Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, in addition to military forces, also required support in the field of political discourse. The justification or "legitimization" of this, vis-à-vis the International organizations, the other states, but also the public opinion, is something that is attempted in the public political speech of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, which he delivered through his televised speeches on February 21 and 24, 2022, while its support is clearly reflected in the public speech of Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov the day after the invasion, in his television interview.
Our research demonstrated the ideological position of Russia's two political orders, but also the implicit way in which they promoted their ideology through specific linguistic means, such as vocabulary and political language, in order to manipulate their audience into accepting certain beliefs about international security and geopolitical becoming. It emerges that with specific strategies they influence the judgment of this, shaping a more passive role in consuming the discourse of the invasion to ensure the desired legitimization. A legitimization based on the "truth" on the part of Russia and which is condensed into the phrase that Ukraine is an inalienable part of their own history and culture.
