Abstract
The following dissertation consists of the translation of an excerpt from the travel guide published by the Greek National Tourism Organization entitled “Discover Greece: Northern Crete”, as well as an analysis of the strategies I followed during the translation process. The reason I chose the translation of a travel guide as the subject of my dissertation is due to the highly significant role that tourism plays in the economy of our country. Summer tourism not only contributes greatly to the country’s GDP, but it also offers employment to a large number of people, thus reducing the overall unemployment rate of Greece. However, in order to keep being at the top of the summer tourist destinations, we must first promote our culture abroad. Therefore, the said translation seeks to bring the German speaking readers closer to the culture of Crete and to encourage them to visit the island themselves.
