Abstract
The present thesis records the methodology for the creation of “Guides of cultural spaces for visitors on the autism spectrum” and its application in the Museum of the Ancient Agora - Stoa of Attalos. In the theoretical part, the issue of the universal design of modern museums is highlighted, focusing on autistic people. The possibility or not of museums to achieve a high degree of accessibility to the autistic public is studied. There is a bibliographic report on Autism, Social Stories and the role of the Museum in the 21st century. Innovative procedures and good practices adopted by museums are presented in order to benefit society. However, autistic people are the most excluded group of cultural events in the world, in contrast to the fact that the prevalence rates have increased in recent years. The recording of the methodology giveς the guidelines of creating a Guide using Information and Communication Technologies, which aims to develop the feeling of intimacy in autistic people when they visit a place of culture. The Museum of the Ancient Agora - Stoa of Attalos was chosen as a case study, for two reasons: First, it is a museum with a special architectural layout, since it is included in a wider archaeological site and secondly, the critical issues for an autistic person (social interaction and communication) are at the core of the philosophy of the Ancient Agora of Athens. Finally, conclusions and proposals are formulated that aim at the most effective creation of relevant Social Stories.
