Abstract
The present thesis, in a general context, deals with the role of the museum on a social level, how it should deal with society, while at the same time analyzing the activist character it maintains and how this can contribute to the defense of human rights. Through the first two references, the work comes down to a more specific and targeted issue, the sexuality. After referring to what this term means nowadays, it is analyzed how the museum owes and how in practice it acts on it. The aim is to analyse the museum's social contribution with regard to excluded social groups, such as queer and LGBTQ+ communities. The methodology followed is in the first stage bibliographic research of concepts, while at the end a series of examples are presented. The examples concern museums in Greece and abroad, through which an idea is given about the methods that can be followed in order to achieve the integration of the above groups. Finally, the conclusions that emerge are the urgent need for immediate intervention by museums in social issues and open access to all, which they must implement, without discrimination and exclusion.
