Abstract
This Thesis aims to present the role of Ancient Greek Literature as a cognitive educational object and a research tool in Higher Education in Europe today. We focused our research axes on the presentation of undergraduate study programs, and specifically on the methodology and the content of the taught Thematic Units that directly or indirectly concern the Ancient Greek Language and Literature. In total, we processed data for eighty-three (83) Higher Education Institutions in Europe and one hundred fifty-four (154) undergraduate study programs distributed in the following countries: Italy, England, Germany, France, and Spain. Data collection, processing, and analysis for all Universities concerns only one cycle of undergraduate level studies “Laurea”, “Bachelors”, “Diplom”, “Licence”, “Grado”, respectively. For each country, we have additionally reported postgraduate studies and in some cases, we have also reported the research activity of the Institutions. Regarding international rankings for scientific performance (research, innovation, etc.) we used quality data from the SCImago Institutions Rankings. The research design of the present thesis was based on case studies. We analyze the findings of the present research and for better visualization of the data we also used graphic representations with tables, graphs, and maps. The findings are interpreted by comparison with the relevant literature, while personal interpretations are also formulated. The thesis is completed by recording the conclusions.
