The current economic, social, political and technological conditions, combined with the ever-increasing demands for higher economic and general development, have gradually shaped the ongoing need to improve operational governance processes in the public sector. One of the major problems that public administrations must overcome, and in particular the Greek public administration, which has caused several pathogens in the long run, is the dysfunctional system of personnel selection for the staffing of public sector services. For decades, the Greek public sector recruitment system has faced widespread problems such as a lack of meritocracy and corruption. The current system of personnel selection for the public sector as it operates today under the auspices of ASEP, has undergone many improvements, however some shortcomings and pathogens of the past still exist to a large extent. An important reason for this is the insufficient and multifaceted institutional system that governs the operation of ASEP. This paper provides a comparative analysis of public sector recruitment systems in both Greece and Europe in an effort to highlight the weaknesses governing the Greek public sector recruitment system, and to formulate policies and practices to improve the existing one. selection process in the Greek public sector. The ultimate goal of the research is to contribute to the strengthening of personnel selection systems for the public sector in Greece, respectively supporting the effort to improve the overall efficiency of the country's public administration.
