Abstract
In an era where a large part of the population has the ability to create a complete musical piece from the comfort of their home, without the help of performers or sound technicians, the concept and role of the music producer is changing significantly. The producer can be a composer, performer and sound engineer at the same time who usually undertakes both the organization and handling of the production process. On the other side, the artist usually incorporates all of the mentioned roles in an effort to reduce the cost of the production while increasing the creative freedom.
This paper examines the issues and concerns that arise when the producer is also the creator of a song, initially researching the historical evolution of the role of the music producers and their relationships with the artists. The reasons that lead an artist to incorporate the dual role and the problems that may arise are also examined. Finally, through the production of two original musical works, which differ in terms of genre, the processes, the problems that arose, the results and the collaboration with another producer are analyzed.
The issues and reflections on the role of the producer-composer act as a compass to enable the artists to find the path that suits them best; the one of complete independence or that of collaboration.
