Abstract
We are definitely living in the information age. All of us are able to accept data and deal with them daily as web users. A huge amount of data has been gathered on the Web. The need for better data management has led to a dramatic change in the way we’re searching and publishing information. Through this need was born the Semantic Web vision, which aims to structure all the concentrated information on Web by transforming the current Web from a series of semantically isolated data into a colossal database of information storage and retrieval. The Linked Data Movement is framed on the Semantic Web technologies. This Thesis deals with the concept of Linked Data. Linked Data refers to a set of technologies and practices that relate to the publication of structured data on the Web as well as their interconnection with other structured data. It follows that the use of Linked Data in libraries and more extensively in the library community offers many benefits, creating a new challenge for the way libraries manage the bibliographic content. One of the Linked Data applications is the BIBFRAME data model, that is presented in the last chapter of this paper.
