Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate the educational value of the songs composed by Thanasis Papakonstantinou (Th.P.). Firstly the characteristics and origins of the modern Greek song as a special kind of art are briefly presented. After setting out the aims and objectives of the Secondary Education and its singing-related courses, an attempt is made to determine the existing and proper place of the modern Greek song as a teaching subject in Greek Middle and High Schools. Moreover, the work of Th.P. and its characteristics are being presented and briefly analyzed. Finally, the thesis records the general possibilities of the employment of his songs in various fields and levels, especially in Secondary Education and presents specific suggestions for their teaching.
