Abstract
The aim of this dissertation is to theoretically investigate the image as bearer of meaning in modern video-art creations. The study focuses on works of modern artists of the “gallery film” category and, more specifically, on works that have been presented as independent films and as multi-projection installations or loop projections. The study inevitably examines the point of con - vergence between “classic cinema” and video-art in terms of how the image is being used as a means to communicate art. Examples and applications from the past, as well as modern trends, are being examined.
