Abstract
The object of study of this dissertation is the Papaioannou Library, a private library which is to function as an integral part of the Papaioannou Foundation, which the family intends to establish in Ioannina.
In the Theoretical part of the work, the concept of private libraries was approached, their course and evolution over time. Reference was made to private libraries of other times, but also modern libraries in Greece and abroad, many of which are part of Institutions, whose activities they support.
The research part of the work was aimed at gathering all the information regarding the history and the creation of the Papaioannou Library. It also examined whether it meets its core objectives and explored its development prospects in terms of future operation and services.
A questionnaire interview was used as a research tool for the research part of the dissertation. An on-site survey was also carried out on a part of the Library's material and an attempt was made to count it. The main aim was to investigate the size, type and value of the material.
The conclusions that emerged from the research are that the Papaioannou Library is a very valuable private library, covering a wide range of fields, a great collection of books, archives and other printed material of great intellectual value, with historical and cultural interest in general. The institution of the Library and its parallel operation with the Foundation will be a place of study, information and research center, will serve research and educational purposes and will be addressed to the whole society while there is the prospect of future development.
