Abstract
The paper explores the history of attempts to harmonize Byzantine music through time, records creators, works and the whole course of these efforts, as well as the trends that developed, those that prevailed, the acceptance or rejection that these attempts met as well as the controversies that occurred. It highlights the newest trends, the current situation and the possibilities for the future of these efforts. Finally, the work 'Vespers Symphony' is analyzed, in which the coexistence of two tendencies is attempted: Byzantine elements in the choir and freer management in the orchestra.
