Abstract
The aim of the current paper was to translate (from French to Greek) a selected excrept (Introduction and part of Chapter 1) from French Canadian author Alain Denault’s book entitled “The Mediocracy”. The purpose of the translation was to preserve the informative and appellative functions of the source text and create a translatum, corresponding to the target language readers’ expectations in conformity with the conventions of Greek scientific written texts. The paper includes a brief demonstration of the Skopos Theory applied to the translation project; an overview of the source text, adapted by the C. Nord’s Model for Translation-Oriented Text Analysis; the side-by-side translation; finally, a commentary of translation issues, classified upon macrolinguistics and microlinguistics level, which describes and explains problems, solutions and choices made.
