Abstract
The graduation thesis entitled "The evolution of education in Ancient Greece. The role and contribution of Socrates and Plato "was created in the context of the mandatory graduation thesis of the Ionian University for awarding the degree from the Department of Archives, Library Science and Museum Studies. The subject concerns the education that people received in Ancient Greece and in particular is placed during the time frame of the 5th century, the details of the existent educational system, the way of education and the means of teaching. Reference is also made to important personalities of the educational environment with a decisive role in the acquisition of knowledge and general education, a typical example of which is the well-known triptych secretary-guitarist-pedotribis. Extensive reference is made to the sophists of the time as well as to the role and influence they had in the education of the time. Also, the presentation of the influence that the appearance and the active role of Socrates and later Plato had on the members of the society is extensive. Characteristic is the presentation and analysis of the educational methods adopted and applied by each of the two aforementioned, but it is also interesting to present the educational methods that prevailed during the 5th century and were preserved until today, as well as the modern way of learning that prevails in sophisticated and modern Greek space. Finally, the main and ultimate goal of this thesis is to focus on the presentation and information of the educational plan during the 5th century, its personalities, but also on the teaching environment, in order to inform about the way of education and acquisition of knowledge.
