Abstract
The following paper constitutes the theoretical part of my thesis which was conducted in order to complete my studies in the AUDIOVISUAL ARTS DEPARTMENT of IONIAN UNIVERSITY. This paper consists of two major parts. The first one concludes the methodology followed for the completion of this thesis and bibliographical research which supported the completion of the executive part of my thesis. The second part regards the movie’s theme, the narration/analysis of the production stages and my choices during the artistic process.
The first part consists of the chapters titled “METHODOLOGY” and “CINEMA, INFLUENCES”. The chapter “METHODOLOGY” reviews the first encounter with my supervisor Mr. Iakovos Panagopoulos regarding this thesis, my early thoughts on the films direction and the organization of the movie’s production. The chapter “CINEMA, INFLUENCES” presents the bibliographical and filmographical research which was held in order to produce the movie and the influences derived from this research onto my direction techniques and my understanding of the disposable direction tools.
The second part of the thesis consists of the chapters “THEMATOLOGY” and “PRODUCTION STAGES”. The first of the two presents the logical connection between the movie’s script and a scientific theory which is being further analyzed based on bibliographical research. The second chapter “PRODUCTION STAGES” concludes the analysis of the three production stages (pre-production, production and post-production) and the artistic/organizational choices being made during the production phase, as well as the factors which lead to those choices.
Finally, after those two major parts of the paper come to an end, the conclusions of this thesis will be presented. The conclusion chapter will include the ways in which this thesis helped me to evolve in regards to researching, filmmaking, directing and producing a movie.
