Abstract
The participation of students in the educational process is an essential condition for their comprehensive development as well as it is every child’s right. This study explores the way every music teacher can contribute in forming in the students' participation in primary education. The qualitative research using semi-structured interviews and observational practice was carried out with the participation of six music teachers. These educators who come from a different educational background, teach the music lesson in primary schools in a region of Greece.
The data analysis highlighted that an educator can affect the students’ level of engagement as well as the quality of their participation. The educational background, the personality and the experience of an educator are directly linked to his contribution of the learning process of students. This can be determined by studying the teaching approaches and methods the educators are choosing to apply. The changes which are identified in each student’s participation, the way they are verified, the factors that influence them and they way the educator is managing this data can highlight the value attached in the engaged participation of each student, as well as in the problems they are facing, in the concerns they are working on and the priorities they are setting. The evaluation process of each student’s participation is not done following a certain framework for all participants of this survey. It is rather a piece of the puzzle which gives meaning to the stundent’s participation and the educator’s contribution to it.
