Abstract
The pluralism of applications of isokratima practice in the interpretation of church
chants today has sparked my interest to investigate the phenomenon, aiming to lead me
to the most traditional version of isokratima that is preserved in contemporary
interpretative practice. My primary concern was to study older information that
presents insights into the existence and role of isokratima in church music, in order to
compile its 'personality' within the musical structure of the art of chanting. The
methodology of my research is included in the first chapter of the paper. Historical and
morphological information from theoretical manuals and musical manuscripts provided
me with answers, which I subsequently applied to various forms and genres of
composition, with the goal of offering the reader a comprehensive understanding of the
most traditional version of isokratima practice in relation to its application in our
contemporary choral tradition.
Thus, the idea for this paper was born: Isokratima – history, theory, and practice.
