Abstract
In this paper, the teaching and learning of Cretan music in villages of the north-eastern province of Pediados during the period 1960 - 1975 is examined through the experiential knowledge of musicians in the area. The aim of the Study is to investigate which methods were used for the teaching-learning of Cretan music, to record the experience of musicians in the region who dealt with this music as students or as teachers and to assess locally the position of Cretan music in music school education in this period. The study adopts the structure of qualitative research and is divided into three main parts, the theoretical framework, the field research and the conclusions. In the theoretical framework, the situation of Cretan music on a national and local scale is recorded and the theories of learning and teaching methods are presented.
