Abstract
In this work, an attempt was made to highlight, protect and utilize our natural and cultural heritage, as it is the basis for the production of goods and services, utilizing the rare cultural resources of the region, which in combination with its natural wealth, constitute a lever sustainable development both for the local municipalities, and more broadly for the entire Region of Thessaly.
The promotion of walking routes is a simple and direct way of reconciling today's man with nature, as well as contributing to the creation of friendly bonds and increasing the socialization of the people of the local communities.
Also, the promotion of the environmental-cultural paths on the one hand for the exploration of the endemic biodiversity and the prospects for the development of forms of sustainable alternative tourism (eco-tourism, agro-tourism, religious etc.), and on the other hand the cultural routes of the wider region, with its rich "cultural reserve" , provide a multidimensional topic for environmental education (forest, rural, lake ecosystems, etc.).
The case study of Karla’s Lake – Mavrovouni mountain, was chosen as an area of interest for the creation and promotion of environmental and cultural paths, with the aim of sustainable development and the diverse subject matter of environmental education.
Through the SWOT analysis, the strengths and weaknesses as well as the opportunities and threats of the study area were investigated. In addition, a survey was carried out by sending a questionnaire, with the aim of investigating the opinions of the survey participants regarding the factors of sustainable development of the area, as well as the opportunities for Environmental Education. The analysis of the data carried out using the statistical package SPSS 27.0, resulted in the production of the diagrams and the results derived from the responses of the participants.
