Abstract
The object of this study is the individual piano lesson for children with learning difficulties, specifically children with Attention and Activity/Hyperactivity Disorders and ADHD. The sample of the work consists of six cases of students with the above diagnoses. The purpose of this work is to investigate the possibility of creating an integrated piano teaching proposal for children with specific learning profiles. Some of the research questions that were raised were: how can the individual piano lesson be organized in such a way as to address this child? How does the teacher approach such a lesson? What are the criteria that make such a course functional? For the implementation of the research, a teaching script was drawn up for seven 45-minute lessons. The lessons were held in a suitably designed space. Data was collected by videotaping and analyzed in various ways. To conduct the research, permission was given by the Ethics Committee of the Ionian University as well by the student's parents. The application was carried out in collaboration with the student's parents and occupational therapists. The findings of the study highlighted the value of interdisciplinarity and the cooperation between the teacher and the student's environment (parents, occupational therapists, speech therapists, etc.) as well as the possibilities and means available to the music lesson and in particular the individual piano lesson for the shaping an inclusive course. The teacher’s ways of approaching, the response of the students to the course, and how the functionality of the course affects the student's path towards his personal goal were also highlighted.
