Abstract
This paper deals with the processing and study of notaries Acts from the Notary Protocol of Emmanuel Toxotis, Constantine Monastriotis and Antonio Spyris, notaries of the 16th century. All notarial acts under consideration were created under the private law. They are notarial documents and concern buying and selling, donations and dowry agreements. Through these actions of Emmanuel Toxotis, Konstantinos Monastriotis and Antonio Spyris one can understand its importance notary work to understand the history of a place. Actions are outlined the social and economic life of the people in Corfu in the 16th century. The 16th a century was an important period for Corfu, which was under Venice sovereignty. The notaries were divided into notaries of the city and its notaries outdoors. The former used Greek and Italian in compilation of the notarial acts, while the latter only the Greek language. For each notarial deed to be valid it had to be signed by two persons present during the drafting of the act, the witnesses, and by its author act, the notary. The position of Protopapa during the years of the Venetian rule in Corfu (1386-1797) it was the highest office for the Orthodox and replaced his office orthodox bishop. The acts of the notaries Emmanuel Toxotis, Konstantinos Monastriotis and Antonio Spyris are issued in accordance with the rules of the diplomatic publication. We derive very important facts from the actions: About the institution of dowry at that time. For the value of things then. For commercial activity at that time. For the administrative division of the island at that time. For the economic life of the place. For the religiosity of persons. For the language and written word of the 16th century. For the population and lot of Corfu.
