Abstract
This doctoral thesis aims to showcase, study, and analyse the diverse translation and writing output of the renowned scholar, translator, and writer Theodore Stephanides (1896-1983).
A man of wide education and diverse academic background, Theodore Stephanides translated a large volume of poems by Kostes Palamas, with his collaborator, the intellectual, editor, and member of the Generation of the '30s, George Katsimbalis (1899-1978).
Theodore Stephanides performed numerous significant translation tasks from Greek to English, one example being the metered verse translation of Erotokritos by Vitsentzos Kornaros.
In addition, his extensive study of Greek and British cultural traditions also resulted in a remarkable literary work comprising poetry collections, volumes of memoirs, theatrical texts, and correspondence.
A thorough analysis will be conducted on his diverse, but little-registered work in Modern Greek literary studies, translation, and writing, to achieve essential understanding and inclusion in Translation and Humanities Studies.
