Abstract
Many modern science fiction works promote curiosity and interest in science. Usually such narratives highlight gaps in knowledge while indirectly promoting cutting edge science of their era. Yet, it is also important for a sci-fi narrative to promote novel ways of thinking, while highlighting outdated ones. This dissertation outlines the weaknesses of reductionistic approaches to the phenomenon of life as well as similar misinterpretations and myths resulting from important brain research data. Popular statements on whether, or how, rare Life on Earth may be, current approaches in the research on the origins of Life, as well as novel research that calls for expansion of the concept of alive. Critical appraisal of the above research and the emergent, relatively novel, ways of thinking, were followed by artistic reflection and experimentation which eventually led to the realization of the attached video artwork.
