Abstract
The present research aims to outline the relations between Turkey and USA, as they are depicted in the Middle East Press from April 2017 to June 2019. The Mideastwire website, which hosts articles from Arabic newspapers, written in English as well as translations of articles originally written in Arabic, was used for the collection of the articles, while their analysis was based on the Critical Discourse Analysis theory. Τhe articles of the newspapers were examined in relation to their time frame, while special emphasis was given to the country of origin as well as to the ideology of the newspaper, in order to achieve safer results. As far as methodology is concerned, for the analysis of the articles a mixed-methods approach (qualitative and quantitative methods) was used. In particular, the articles were first analysed qualitatively followed by quantitative analysis in order to re-evaluate the findings from the qualitative analysis and provide reliable results. For the quantitative analysis, the articles were analysed using the AntConc software (Anthony, 2019). The questions posed concerned the attitude of each newspaper and by extension of each country towards Turkey and its relation with the USA. In conclusion, this research is an attempt to collect information on the depiction of Turkey by the Arab states regarding its cooperation with the USA, which can lead us to outline the general picture of Turkey as an ally or opponent of US interests in the area.
