Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the education of millions of students around the world. The purpose of this study is to explore the concepts of technology education and digital support provided to deaf students in e-learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study is qualitative in nature and uses anonymous, semi-structured interviews. In January 2022, a convenient sample of deaf students (n = 15) and their instructors (n = 3) are interviewed and the answers are analyzed thematically through ΝVivo. The results are expected to reveal aspects of five key issues related to the experience of deaf students in e-learning during COVID-19. The topics are: course content delivered, technology used, delivery method, assessment tools used and social interactions. Each topic is discussed and compared with the relevant literature to scientifically include its proposed dimensions. The students participating in the interview will describe their experience of using internet technology in both negative and positive terms. The trainers will also provide input to express their experiences during this period. Online distance education, through the literature, is described as a difficult and challenging experience that lacks effective communication channels and has failed to meet the needs of the deaf in relation to the media. Formal teaching methods are described as challenging and the lack of social interaction was highlighted as an obligation. At the same time, participants are expected to recognize some of the ancillary benefits of online distance learning, in terms of enhancing their technological skills and abilities to adapt to a new environment.
