Abstract
Although most internet users feel safe while “surfing” the world wide web, an increase of cases in the world of cybercrime has been noticed in the last couple of years that seems to be getting more and more prevalent with the passage of time.
According to statistical surveys, 43% of cyberattacks target small businesses due to the lack of security of both themselves and the web servers they run on.[1] By selecting these easy targets, the attackers have access to user information, financial resources and all different types of data. Of particular concern is that a significant 70% of small businesses are unable to deal with cyber-attacks of various kinds due to lack of cybersecurity knowledge.
Knowing the above, some questions arise; where do developers really stand when it comes to customizing their websites? Is the security of the websites they create their top priority?
This research comes to answer these questions and to clarify what the situation really is in terms of the security of websites designed with the use of the popular Content Management System platform Wordpress.
