Abstract
The current PhD dissertation attempts to analyze the translation of Michel Deon's works through the comparison of the original text-translation and to result to their critical approach. The dissertation is based on the critical analysis of three novels: The Purple Taxi, translated by Ioanna Hatzinikoli, Greek pages translated by Andreas Vahliotis and the theatrical play Ariadne Or The Lamentation, translated by Kirki Kefalea. The translations cover a long time span between 1985 and 2001. The aim of the dissertation is not only the positive or negative characterization of the translations, but also the impact of their quality on the recognition of Michel Deon in Greece.
Through the review of the bibliography (monographs, books, dissertations, articles) and the coverage of the Greek press, new data emerges about the impact of Michel Deon's work on Greek readers. The question arises as to whether the quality of translation contributes decisively to the writer's reception in Greece, or whether external factors, such as the writer’s exposure in the press, ultimately impact.
