Abstract
The object of this thesis is a serious game that would be used to teach Byzantine history. I opted for a small 2D game on the Unity 3D game engine, which aimed to project two battles during the Justinian period. At the beginning an analysis of electronic games and the subcategory of serious games, of which this game is a part of, is presented. Subsequently, there is a detailed reference to the two historical battles, the Battle of Dara in Anatolia and the Battle of the Tagines or Busta Gallorum in the Italian peninsula. Finally, the tools used to create the game, the game description, the technical characteristics and the code are presented. The player has the ability to navigate on the map and defend all the administrative regions of the Byzantine empire from invasions of the barbarians. By collecting experience points (s)he levels up, becomes stronger and faces increasingly difficult battles. With each level up, (s)he has more life and a stronger bow in his/her hands. The final goal of the player is to reach a high enough level so that (s)he is strong enough to win both battles that are featured the game.
