Abstract
This paper presents colostrum, the first milk produced by the mammary glands of mammals immediately after birth, which is rich in proteins, vitamins, minerals, and immunological components. Its historical and contemporary use demonstrates its high nutritional and therapeutic value, particularly in enhancing the immune and gastrointestinal systems. To analyze the properties and applications of colostrum, a literature review was conducted, encompassing reports from antiquity to modern scientific research. Data were gathered from scientific articles, historical texts, and current research findings, covering topics such as nutritional composition, bioactive substances, health applications, and colostrum quality. The review revealed that colostrum contains significant bioactive components, such as immunoglobulins and growth factors, which boost immune responses and promote tissue growth. Its use as a dietary supplement has proven particularly beneficial for athletes and individuals with immunological and gastrointestinal disorders. Furthermore, factors affecting its quality, such as genetic, environmental, and dietary factors, were analyzed. The purpose of this study was to examine the composition, benefits, and applications of colostrum, as well as to highlight the methods for preserving its quality. Through this review, the aim is to provide a comprehensive overview of the value of colostrum in modern nutrition and health.
