Abstract
This dissertation delves into the translation from Greek to English of an excerpt from a MA
dissertation, which refers on tourism in Zakynthos emphasising in intercultural communication. The challenges that arise from the translation of tourism texts are thoroughly analysed, considering the diverse cultural implications and the specificities of different audiences within the tourism sector.
Moreover, the dissertation focuses on the necessity of adapting translations to meet the specific needs and expectations of various audiences. Using practical examples, it examines the ways in which the translation of texts, both in a general context and specifically in the tourism sector, can contribute to improving communication between different cultures and enhancing the experience of tourists since the proposals set out for the sustainable development of the tourism sector on a well-known Greek island have precisely this aim.
Based on theoretical and practical translation approaches, strategies are proposed for improving the translation of texts in the tourism sector and effectively adapting them to different cultures and social factors. This contribution is a modest contribution to the field of translation studies, providing both theoretical knowledge and foundations and practical guidelines for professional translators who seek to improve the quality of their translations in the tourism field.
